From carpenter’s tool to characterful lighting

Crafted from a vintage John Rabone & Sons carpenter’s spirit level, Level Lamp 01 retains the character of its working life. The maker’s name is incorporated into the brass plate, and the No. 101 model marking remains visible on the oak body.

John Rabone & Sons was a Birmingham measuring-tool maker with roots dating back to around 1784. The company merged with James Chesterman & Co. in 1963 to become Rabone Chesterman.

Although we don’t know when this level arrived in New Zealand, its story continues here as a heritage lamp.

Delivery and collection

Delivery within the Wellington area is a flat fee of $11.50. Free click and collect is available from Plimmerton, Wellington or Greytown, Wairarapa. Delivery charges outside Wellington are calculated at checkout.

For deliveries to Australia, timber import requirements may apply and are the purchaser’s responsibility.
