Tōtara Fence Post Lamp with Hinge #201
This Edison table lamp has been created from an old reclaimed tōtara fence post and the original 'hang it' hinge that supported a farm gate, making a distinctive addition to this unique lamp.
Tōtara is one of the biggest and oldest trees in the New Zealand forest and was used extensively by Māori and later by European settlers. Its straight grain and durability meant that it was the preferred timber for carving, house piles, telegraph poles and fence posts.
Most early fencing was supported by the iconic tōtara post and this piece is likely to be well over 100 years old.
JB keeps a sense of the history of the timber by retaining the amazing weathered surface of the wood while still exposing and polishing the beautiful end grain.
The tōtara has been wire-brushed, cleaned, lightly sanded, and hand finished by applying a coating of natural beeswax.
A lamp that carries the marks of a working life, and wears them proudly.

The bulb is rated to a maximum of 40W and has a lamp life of approximately 1,500 hours. Replacements are widely available in New Zealand.
