Timber Table Lamp - Wood plane series #42
This Edison table lamp has been handcrafted from an old carpenter's wood block plane. Combined with an edison bulb and polished with natural beewswax it provides gorgeous ambient lighting for your home.
The plane was made by the German manufacturer, Henry Böker, whose family's small hardware factory dates back to the 17th Century.
The Böker brand, featuring a crossed arrow can still be clearly seen on the cutting blade.
The 'rhino horn' handle on this example is typical of a German or continental style of plane. Sometimes called a Bismark plane and named after the Prince Otto von Bismark, first Chancellor of a united Germany in the 19th Century.
Table Lamp Details
- The dimensions of the lamp base are: length 26 cm, width 7cm, height with bulb, 20 cm.
- 2 kg
The plane has been cleaned, lightly sanded to remove years of grime, and hand finished with natural beeswax.
I have tried to retain a sense of the history of the tool by leaving surface marks while cleaning and polishing the beautiful wood.
Each plane comes with a written history.
The vintage E27 40W screw fit Edison bulb, which comes with your lamp, has a life of about 1500 hours and can be easily changed for any number of similar bulbs that are widely available in New Zealand.
Each lamp is tagged and tested to ensure electrical safety. It has a long lead and an in-line switch.
We recommend a maximum 40W bulb.
Your Edison lamp has a felt pad on the base to protect any surface you choose to put it on.
