Timber Table Lamp - Rare Dutch Plane
Our Edison table lamps combine recycled timber with edgy industrial materials, which reflect New Zealand’s commercial and agricultural history.
They provide stunning ambience to enhance your room and are much admired.
Each lamp is unique but this one has the added feature of being a rare find.
It has been created from an unusual old carpenter's wood plane with a blade made by a Dutch company, Jan Nootigedagt that dates back to 1865.
The well worn Jan Nooitgedagt logo is incorporated into the steel and is still visible on the top of the cutting blade.
The plane is unusual because it has a full closed tote (handle) that is off-set and is longer and narrower than the English block planes that are more common in New Zealand.
The initials of the carpenter who used this plane P and JT can still be seen on the toe and heel of the block.
Table Lamp Details
- The dimensions of the lamp base are: length 59 cm, width 7 cm, height with bulb, 18 cm.
- 4.0 kg
The plane has been cleaned, lightly sanded to remove years of grime, and hand finished with natural beeswax.
I have tried to retain a sense of the history of the tool by leaving surface marks while cleaning and polishing the beautiful wood.
Each plane comes with a written history.
The vintage E27 40W screw fit Edison bulb, which comes with your lamp, has a life of about 1500 hours and can be easily changed for any number of similar bulbs that are easily available in New Zealand.
Each lamp is tagged and tested to ensure electrical safety. It has a long lead and an in-line switch.
We recommend a maximum 40W bulb.
Your Edison lamp has a felt pad on the base to protect any surface you choose to put it on.
