Timber Door Stop - Wharf Series #65
A gorgeous timber Keep Me Post, crafted from an unusual round piece of wharf timber.
Keep Me Posts are functional art, that cherish the story of each piece of timber - stunning as art or functional, as door stops.
Each post is unique, created using a piece of recycled wharf timber following the restoration of the Eastbourne wharf in Wellington harbour.
It is likely to be well over 100 years old.
The beauty of this timber is enhanced with the contrasting texture of a railway pandrol clip that has been used to tie the sleeper and railway line together.
-
Material: Jarrah & railway iron
- Dimensions: H 40 cm, Diametre 17 cm
- Weight: 6.3 kg
The timber is Australian Jarrah, a very dense and durable wood that is part of the Eucalyptus family.
Jarrah was imported and used along with other Australian hardwoods in late nineteenth century New Zealand for commercial and industrial construction.
The history of the timber has been retained by leaving an existing knot and surface marks, while exposing and polishing the beautiful top grain.
Both the Jarrah and the old iron have been cleaned, sanded, and hand finished by applying a coating of natural beeswax.
Each Keep Me Post has a felt pad on the base to protect any surface you choose to put it on.
