Table Lamp | Vintage Wood Plane | #107
Industrial Alchemy - Where History Meets Modernity
Embrace the fusion of function and form with this distinctive table lamp. This unique creation seamlessly blends the soul of industrial history with the contemporary allure of modern lighting
This Edison table lamp has been created from an old carpenter's wood block ‘jack’ plane made by Marples & Sons, a company established in Sheffield, England in the mid-19th Century and producing quality woodworking tools for over a hundred years.
The Marples brand is incorporated into the steel and is still visible on the cutting blade.
It is not known when this plane arrived in New Zealand but the original owner N? DUCKWORTH has stamped his name on the wedge. Naming of wooden tools was a common practice and helped identify personal tools in a busy workplace.
The plane has been cleaned, lightly sanded, and hand finished with natural beeswax. It has a felt pad underneath to protect any surfaces you choose to place it on.
Any marks and blemishes resulting from years of use have been retained to give a sense of the history of the tool and those who have used it.
Its character and history have been enhanced by the addition of a ‘vintage’ 40W Edison bulb with multiple light emitting filaments that capture the essence of a by-gone era.
- The dimensions of the lamp base are: height with bulb, 20cm, width 7 cm, length 43 cm
- 2 kg
The replica vintage E27 40W screw fit Edison bulb, which comes with your lamp, has a life of about 1500 hours and can be easily changed for any number of similar bulbs that are widely available in New Zealand.
Each lamp is independently tagged and tested. It has a long lead and an in-line switch.
We recommend a maximum 40W bulb.
Your Edison lamp has a felt pad on the base to protect any surface you choose to put it on.
