Upcycled from a vintage wood plane, this handcrafted piece embodies a commitment to reducing waste and celebrating the past.

The meticulously restored beech wood, bearing the marks of its former life, now houses a warm replica Edison bulb, casting a soft glow that fills your space with gorgeous ambiance.

Each lamp comes with a written history, connecting you to the journey of this remarkable piece, which dates from the 19th Century.

This lamp bears the distinctive Ward and Payne trade mark (crossed forging hammers above an anvil) that is incorporated into the steel and is still clearly visible on the cutting blade of this plane.  

The toe of the beechwood base carries the branding of John J. Harley, a tool dealer located at 27 Old Haymarket Liverpool from 1875 until 1922.  The plane is a 15 inch (37 cm) jack plane with a half ’tote’ or handle and is certainly more than 100 years old.

The dimensions of the lamp base are:

  • height with bulb, 20cm, width 6.5 cm, length 37 cm.
  • 2 kg

I have tried to retain a sense of the history of the tool by leaving surface marks while cleaning and polishing the beautiful beech wood with natural bees wax.

The vintage E27 40W screw fit replica Edison bulb, which comes with your lamp, has a life of about 1500 hours and can be easily changed for any number of similar bulbs that are  widely available in New Zealand.

Each lamp is independently tagged and tested to ensure electrical safety. It has a long lead and an in-line switch.

We recommend a maximum 40W bulb.

Each table lamp has a felt pad on the base to protect any surface you choose to put it on.

Delivery

We have a $7 flat fee for delivery in the Wellington area, and a (free) click and collect service from Plimmerton, Wellington.

Delivery charges outside of Wellington will be calculated at check-out.

Deliveries to Australia may be subject to custom regulations regarding the importation of timber and are the responsibility of the purchaser.
