It is crafted from a genuine vintage wood plane that is likely to be over 100 years old.

This lamp has been restored with love - plus some elbow grease, and finished with natural bees wax and the addition of a replica edison bulb

The gorgeous hues of the beech wood were discovered beneath years of grime and still bear the marks of its owners who used it way before power tools took over the task.

Now a unique designer table lamp, its journey began in Glasgow, Scotland, a city known for its hard core tradies who worked in a tough industrial environment. It was manufactured by Alex Mathieson & Son, a company founded in the early 1800s  that produced quality woodworking tools for well over 100 years.

The legacy of their craftsmanship is imprinted in the steel, where the Mathieson brand is clearly seen and is also visible on the toe end of the block

As you run your fingers over this lamp's smooth surface, you're connected to generations of skilled artisans who contributed to its journey to New Zealand.

The attractive glow of the Edison bulb reflects on the polished surface and casts a beautiful ambiance in your space. It's more than just a source of light; it's a conversation starter, a piece of history, and a work of art all in one.

I have tried to retain a sense of the history of the tool by leaving surface marks while cleaning and polishing the beautiful beech wood.

Each plane comes with a written history.

The vintage E27 40W screw fit replica Edison bulb, which comes with your lamp, has a life of about 1500 hours and can be easily changed for any number of similar bulbs that are  widely available in New Zealand.

Each lamp is independently tagged and tested to ensure electrical safety. It has a long lead and an in-line switch.

We recommend a maximum 40W bulb.

Each table lamp has a felt pad on the base to protect any surface you choose to put it on.

Delivery

We have a $7 flat fee for delivery in the Wellington area, and a (free) click and collect service from Plimmerton, Wellington.

Delivery charges outside of Wellington will be calculated at check-out.

Deliveries to Australia may be subject to custom regulations regarding the importation of timber and are the responsibility of the purchaser.
