Reclaimed Wharf Timber & Nail Table Lamp | #201
A piece of Wellington’s waterfront history, ready to light a new chapter. Lamp #201 combines deeply weathered Jarrah wharf timber, an original wharf nail and the warm glow of a globe-shaped Edison bulb. The dark grain, natural fissures and visible traces of the timber’s working life give this reclaimed wooden table lamp its distinctive character.
An original wharf nail takes centre stage
Set diagonally across the timber’s face, the original nail creates a striking contrast with the vertical grain. More than an industrial accent, it is a tangible link to the wharf this timber once supported. Its worn surface sits comfortably alongside the wood’s weathered texture, celebrating the materials rather than disguising their past.
Place it on a sideboard, console or favourite corner table. By day, enjoy the sculptural simplicity of timber and metal; by evening, the exposed filament bulb adds a warm, inviting glow. It is a thoughtful piece for anyone drawn to coastal heritage, reclaimed materials and objects with a story.
From Wellington wharf to your home
This lamp is crafted from Australian Jarrah reclaimed during restoration of the Eastbourne wharf in Wellington Harbour. Jarrah was widely used in New Zealand’s wharves, bridges and other commercial structures during the late nineteenth century. Here, that hardworking timber has been given a new purpose without losing the marks of its earlier life.
Each lamp comes with its own written history, keeping the story of the reclaimed material with the finished piece.
Restored with respect for the past
The Jarrah has been cleaned, sanded and hand-finished with natural beeswax to bring out its grain while retaining its weathered character. The original wharf nail remains a defining feature, making this lamp a celebration of the wood and the people who once worked with it.
