Edison Table Lamp - Wood plane series #37
Our Edison lamps are a homage to New Zealand's industrial, commerical and agricultural history.
They'll enhance your room and stimulate discussion around the history of the restored craftsman's tool and the edgy industrial aesthetic.
This Edison table lamp has been created from an old carpenter's wood block plane made by John Jowett, an English toolmaker registered in Sheffield, England in the 19th century.
The Jowett logo is incorporated into the steel and still visible on the cutting blade. The heel of the block is also stamped.
Small wood planes of this design are called 'coffin' planes because the body of the wood block resembles the shape of a coffin.
- The dimensions of the lamp base are: length 20cm, width 7.5 cm, height with bulb, 20cm.
- 1 kg
I have tried to retain a sense of the history of the tool by leaving surface marks while cleaning and polishing the beautiful beech wood.
Each plane comes with a written history.
The plane has been cleaned, lightly sanded to remove years of grime, and hand finished with natural beeswax.
The vintage E27 40W screw fit Edison bulb, which comes with your lamp, has a life of about 1500 hours and can be easily changed for any number of similar bulbs that are generally freely available in New Zealand.
Each lamp is tagged and tested. It has a long lead and an in-line switch.
We recommend a maximum 40W bulb.
Your Edison lamp has a felt pad on the base to protect any surface you choose to put it on.
