Edison Table Lamp - Wood plane series #28
Our Edison lamps combine recycled timber with edgy industrial materials, which reflect New Zealand’s commercial and agricultural history.
They'll enhance your room and stimulate discussion.
This Edison table lamp has been created from an old carpenter's wood plane made by Charles Taylor who established a tool making company in Sheffield, England, in the 19th Century.
The classic Charles Taylor brand, which features a wood screw, is incorporated into the steel and is still visible on the cutting blade of your table lamp.
The wood block is beech and branded Crossmark Keen, a subsidiary of the famous Alex Mathieson & Son company.
The name of the carpenter who used this plane D Phillip is carved in the body of the block.
- The dimensions of the lamp base are: length 43cm, width 7.5cm, height with bulb, 20cm.
- 1.8 kg
The plane has been cleaned, lightly sanded to remove years of grime, and hand finished with natural beeswax.
I have tried to retain a sense of the history of the tool by leaving surface marks while cleaning and polishing the beautiful wood.
Each plane comes with a written history.
The vintage E27 40W screw fit Edison bulb, which comes with your lamp, has a life of about 1500 hours and can be easily changed for any number of similar bulbs that are easily available in New Zealand.
Each lamp is tagged and tested to ensure electrical safety. It has a long lead and an in-line switch.
We recommend a maximum 40W bulb.
Your Edison lamp has a felt pad on the base to protect any surface you choose to put it on.
