Table Lamp | Authentic Wood Plane | #85
Beyond the Blade - A Story of Adaptation
This captivating lamp tells a story of ingenuity and adaptation. Crafted from a meticulously restored carpenter's plane, it reflects a time when hand tools were king - plus a bit of sweat and tears.
Its base boasts German engineering from Heinrich Boker (established 1869).
The blade, however, hints at a unique journey. Marked with the name Alex Mathieson & Sons, a respected Scottish toolmaker founded in the early 19th century, this blade likely replaced the original Boker blade, perhaps worn from years of use.
The "rhino horn" handle, typical of German planes, speaks further to its heritage and the original owner’s initials W.M. are visible on the wedge.
Topped with a warm replica Edison bulb, this lamp transcends its utilitarian past.
It's a conversation starter, a unique blend of history and modern design, illuminating your space with a warm glow and a story of human ingenuity.
It also makes a gift for someone special.- The dimensions of the lamp base are: height with bulb, 20cm, width 7 cm, length 26 cm.
- 1.3 kg
Each lamp comes with a written history.
The plane has been cleaned, lightly sanded to remove years of grime, and hand finished with natural beeswax.
The replica vintage E27 40W screw fit Edison bulb, which comes with your lamp, has a life of about 1500 hours and can be easily changed for any number of similar bulbs that are widely available in New Zealand.
Each lamp is independently tagged and tested. It has a long lead and an in-line switch.
We recommend a maximum 40W bulb.
Your Edison lamp has a felt pad on the base to protect any surface you choose to put it on.
