Edison Table Lamp - Wood plane series #32
Our Edison lamps combine recycled timber with edgy industrial materials, which reflect New Zealand’s commercial and agricultural history.
They'll enhance your room and stimulate discussion.
This Edison table lamp has been created from an old carpenter's beech wood plane. The block carries an imperial 2" measurement stamp on the heel, indicating it was made by one of the block plane makers to be found in England or Scotland during the 19th and 20th centuries.
It incorporates a cutting blade carrying the BYSEL brand and it is likely that this is a replacement for the original blade.
Small wood planes of this design are called 'coffin' planes because the body of the wood block resembles the shape of a coffin.
- The dimensions of the lamp base are: length 21cm, width 7.5cm, height with bulb, 21cm.
- 1 kg
I have tried to retain a sense of the history of the tool by leaving surface marks while cleaning and polishing the beautiful beech wood.
Each plane comes with a written history.
The plane has been cleaned, lightly sanded to remove years of grime, and hand finished with natural beeswax.
The vintage E27 40W screw fit Edison bulb, which comes with your lamp, has a life of about 1500 hours and can be easily changed for any number of similar bulbs that are generally freely available in New Zealand.
Each lamp is tagged and tested. It has a long lead and an in-line switch.
We recommend a maximum 40W bulb.
Your Edison lamp has a felt pad on the base to protect any surface you choose to put it on.
