Edison Table Lamp - Wood plane series #18
Our Edison lamps combine recycled timber with edgy industrial materials, which reflect New Zealand’s commercial and agricultural history.
They'll enhance your room and stimulate discussion.
This Edison table lamp has been created from an old carpenter's wood block plane made by Marples & Sons, a company established in Sheffield, England, in the mid 19th Century and producing quality woodworking tools for over a hundred years.
Marples & Sons became one of the best known and most prolific of all the Sheffield hand tool makers.
The Marples brand is incorporated into the steel and is still visible on the cutting blade. It has also been stamped onto the 'toe end' of the block and ink-stamped into the top of the 'toe.'
- The dimensions of the lamp base are: length 44cm, width 8cm, height with bulb, 20cm.
I have tried to retain a sense of the history of the tool by leaving surface marks while cleaning and polishing the beautiful beech wood.
Each plane comes with a written history.
The plane has been cleaned, lightly sanded to remove years of grime, and hand finished with natural beeswax.
The vintage E27 40W screw fit Edison bulb, which comes with your lamp, has a life of about 1500 hours and can be easily changed for any number of similar bulbs that are generally freely available in New Zealand.
Each lamp is tagged and tested. It has a long lead and an in-line switch.
We recommend a maximum 40W bulb.
Your Edison lamp has a felt pad on the base to protect any surface you choose to put it on.
