The Craftsman's Light | #142
A Tribute to the Maker’s Hand
This lamp began life as a working carpenter’s plane — its edges shaped by years of craft and care. Now, lovingly reimagined by JB, it glows with the same purpose it once served: to illuminate creation.
Each piece is unique, handcrafted in Wellington from reclaimed tools and timber, blending rugged utility with refined artistry.
The wood block of this plane was made by William Greenslade - a company which was established in England in the early 1800s. The W. Greenslade Bristol brand is stamped into the toe of this beech wood block.
The steel cutting blade was manufactured by another English company: Aaron Hildick. It produced quality woodworking tools for well over 100 years and the Hildick brand, incorporated into the steel, is still clearly visible on the cutting blade of your lamp.
Small wood planes of this design are called ’coffin’ planes because the body of the wood block resembles the shape of a coffin. The smaller size is better able to work on smaller workpieces and around obstructions and makes it perfect to sit on a bookcase or in a smaller space within your home 😊
Own a piece of craftsmanship reborn — where history, design, and handmade detail meet.
- The dimensions of the lamp base are: height with bulb, 20 cm, width 7 cm, length 20 cm
- 1 kg
The plane has been cleaned, lightly sanded to remove years of grime, and hand finished with natural beeswax.
The included vintage-style 4W LED candle bulb is designed to last approximately 1500 hours.
Each lamp is independently tagged and tested. It has a long lead and an in-line switch.
Your Edison lamp has a felt pad on the base to protect any surface you choose to put it on.
