This unique creation seamlessly blends the soul of industrial history with the contemporary allure of modern lighting. Its base, meticulously crafted from a restored Varvill and Sons carpenter's plane, boasts a rich heritage dating back to 18th century England.

The iconic "crossed hammer" mark of Ward and Payne, a legendary Sheffield blade manufacturer, adorns the plane's original steel cutting blade, a testament to the era's commitment to quality.

It also has a distinctive ‘strike button’ on the toe.  This raised area on the top of the block was there so adjustments to the blade could be made.

Topped with a warm replica Edison bulb, this lamp transforms a utilitarian tool into a conversation piece, casting a warm glow and a captivating story on your space.

Each lamp comes with an individual history, in which you can now play your part.

The dimensions of the lamp base are:

  • height with bulb, 20cm, width 8 cm, length 43 cm.
  • 2 kg

I have tried to retain a sense of the history of the tool by leaving surface marks while cleaning and polishing the beautiful beech wood with natural bees wax.

The vintage E27 40W screw fit replica Edison bulb, which comes with your lamp, has a life of about 1500 hours and can be easily changed for any number of similar bulbs that are  widely available in New Zealand.

Each lamp is independently tagged and tested to ensure electrical safety. It has a long lead and an in-line switch.

We recommend a maximum 40W bulb.

Each table lamp has a felt pad on the base to protect any surface you choose to put it on.

Delivery

We have a $7 flat fee for delivery in the Wellington area, and a (free) click and collect service from Plimmerton, Wellington.

Delivery charges outside of Wellington will be calculated at check-out.

Deliveries to Australia may be subject to custom regulations regarding the importation of timber and are the responsibility of the purchaser.
