Edison Table Lamp - Wood plane series #2
Our Edison lamps combine recycled timber with edgy industrial materials, which reflect New Zealand’s commercial and agricultural history.
They'll enhance your room and stimulate discussion.
This Edison table lamp has been created from an old carpenter's wood block plane made by Robert Sorby and Sons, a company established in Sheffield, England, in 1828.
The Sorby brand, featuring a kangaroo, is incorporated into the steel and is still visible. The cutting blade was made by Mathieson & Sons, a Glasgow company.
The plane has the original carpenter's name R.J Bestford stampled into the wood in two plances.
- The dimensions of the lamp base are: length 43cm, width 6cm, height with bulb, 21cm.
I have tried to retain a sense of the history of the tool by leaving surface marks while cleaning and polishing the beautiful wood.
The plane has been cleaned, lightly sanded to remove years of grime, and hand finished with natural beeswax.
The vintage E27 40W screw fit Edison bulb has a lamp life of about 1500 hours and can be easily changed for any number of similar bulbs that are generally freely available in New Zealand.
Each lamp is tagged and tested. It has a long lead and a in-line switch.
We recommend a maximum 40W bulb.
Your Edison lamp has a felt pad on the base to protect any surface you choose to put it on.
